Pointing Dog Training



You have taken the time to do your research selected "the right" breeder, with excitement and enthusiasm you finally  brought home your new hunting companion. Filled anticipation of how great a family companion they will be, on that first real outing with your dog  how easily they will handle, working as a team with you. How beautiful and majestic on point. You leisurely walking up to your dog waiting for that bird to flush, you making a clean shot woth your dog retrieving beautifully to hand. Without the proper introduction to commands, birds and over all training this may not be your experience.  Although it could be!

With proper introduction to training your pup can be a valued family companion, your first and every outing one that fills you with excitement and pride. On the other hand without the proper introduction to training  family life with the dog may be a horrible experience your with days afield  more likely to have you red faced as your dog flushes bird after bird  you screaming through the fields wondering why did I get this dog at all! 

Our training programs will produce not only a valued family  companion but your days afield spent quietly working as a team with your dog enjoying the day as well as a nice leisurely hunt with you hoping to run into someone /anyone so that you may brag about this wonder dog.

All of our dogs live in the house with us as valued members of the family as I would have it no other way . When in the field we spend our time in pursuit of birds not looking for our dog(s). We do so not without screaming, without constant hacking, quietly with our dogs performing the task at hand with eagerness and  enthusiasm!  

Whether you are looking to board your dog for monthly training or are looking for one on one training, with over 40 years of experience working with pointing dog's our training programs employ the skill and knowledge to achieve the results as to why you purchased your pup in the first place!

Just like people dogs learn at different intervals, our training programs are devised for the individual pupil and handler, never a cookie cutter method.

All of our field training is done on a 680 acre Private GunClub
Basic Obedience Training is Available

Head Start Program-Age 4 to months. Course length 1 month
 

Basic Obedience:
  • Sit on command 
  • ​Stay Command
  • Down command verbal 
  • Kennel up 
  • Come when called
  • ​Lead obedience
  • ​Introduction to table
  • ​Introduction to field 
  • Bird Introduction-Steady to the flush
  • ​Introduction to retrieving

Intermediate  Training Age 6 months plus


Intermediate Training:
  • Sit to both verbal and hand command
  • Down to both verbal and hand command
  • Come on command verbally and to a whistle
  • Whoa command verbally
  • Hand signals in the field 
  • ​Bird work -steady to the shot 
  • Introduction to Forced Retrieving
  • ​Field training off lead

Finished Gun Dog Training 



  • Continuing education on all basic commands voice and hand signals.
  • Completely Steady to wing shot and fall
  • Complete force broke retrieving to hand sitting on delivery
  • Fully Whoa broke to both hand and verbal commands.
