I receive numerous calls from people searching for DK pups. When I ask why they want a DK, I often hear the same response: "DK dogs are better." After decades of working with Shorthairs and gaining experience in NADKC, NAVHDA, and the AKC, I would challenge that notion. It's not about whether DK dogs are inherently better. What truly matters is the knowledge, experience, and dedication of the breeder making the pairing, as well as the rules and regulations of the organization under which they operate.
In my opinion, the German system sets a very high standard. The rigorous requirements for qualifying a dog to breed, combined with the need for breeder approval, ensure that pairings are not done out of convenience but with careful consideration. This process helps maintain the integrity of the breed and gives buyers confidence that they’re getting a pup from a thoughtfully planned and qualified pairing.
That said, excellent breeders can be found across all organizations. The key is to take your time and do your homework. Don’t get caught up in the debate over which organization produces the best pups. Instead, focus on finding a breeder with the experience and knowledge to produce the type of hunting dog you’re looking for, and one you feel comfortable working with.
For me, breeders within the German system stand out. They uphold a tradition of producing high-quality dogs with strong hunting instincts, sound structure, consistency, and excellent temperaments. The system is designed to ensure that pups mature to their full potential while contributing meaningfully back to the DK lineage.
Ultimately, the environment into which a pup is placed will determine its success. If you feel more comfortable with one breeder or organization over another, that’s your answer—trust your instincts and choose the breeder who aligns with your goals and expectations.

Good Puppies Are Never an Accident
At the heart of our breeding program is a simple yet powerful objective: to pair the best with the best. We carefully select proven and tested bloodlines to produce dogs that are not only a joy to handle but also possess remarkable natural abilities. Our mission is to bring puppies into the world that are calm, cooperative, and intelligent, yet driven by an undeniable passion for the field.
We believe in breeding with intention and integrity. Every dog we breed has been tested where it matters most—under real hunting conditions. These aren’t just paper pedigrees or titles; they are generations of dogs that have excelled in the field and passed on their strengths to the next.
Our puppies are born and raised in our home, where they are loved, nurtured, and socialized from the very start. This foundation ensures they are well-adjusted and ready to thrive in their new environments. Every litter is the result of meticulous planning and a commitment to excellence. We don’t breed for convenience or to meet demand. Simply put, we breed when the right pairing presents itself, and only then.
Our dogs are first and foremost our personal hunting partners and beloved family companions. While we participate in testing venues and appreciate their value, we are not breeding for titles; we are breeding for the hunt. A list of accolades doesn’t make a great hunting dog. True greatness comes from the way a dog performs in the wild—our test is on grouse and woodcock in the dense Northern woods of Maine, where instincts, drive, and adaptability are tested to their fullest.
With decades of experience and a deep love for this breed, our breeding decisions are grounded in what matters most: dogs that excel in the field and enhance the joy of the hunt. Our passion ensures that every puppy we produce has the potential to become a versatile, reliable, and cherished partner for years to come.
Vom Nobelle Haus is a registered kennel within the NADKC. While we ar a registered kennel we do not breed and will not  breed outside of the DKV system. Although we have not used Nobelles in decades, We are also a registered Kennel within NAVHDA as Nobelles.

Our breeding program is the culmination of years of planning, research, experience and efforts resulting in what we believe is the ultimate hunting companion.

We are as selective in the homes where we place our puppies, as you should be about the puppy you are purchasing. We will try and determine together the type of puppy you are looking for, and then match that desire to one of our puppies. Never buy a pup from a puppy mill.

We will not to ship our pups via an airline, pups are to picked up at our home! I can not imagine the fright a little puppy must endure when placed in a kennel, dropped off with strangers and then shipped. This is a situation we will never put one one our puppies in!

We are not a large commercial kennel, and do not have puppies available “On demand ".
Our litters are well planned out in advance and are frequently sold out as far in advance an ss they are planned.

For the past 20 years, I’ve had the pleasure of hunting at Grants, located in beautiful Rangeley, Maine. What keeps me coming back year after year isn’t just the world-class grouse and woodcock hunting, but the exceptional experience provided by the friendly and welcoming staff. From the moment you arrive, you're treated not as a client, but as part of the family. The guides at Grants have a true passion for upland bird hunting and a deep respect for the game and their dogs. Their expertise and dedication to the sport are unmatched, making every hunt memorable and rewarding. Whether you're an experienced hunter or new to the field, their knowledge and enthusiasm elevate the experience.
At Grants, you may arrive as strangers, but you leave with a sense of camaraderie and connection, eager to return. It’s more than just a hunting trip—it's a tradition I’ve cherished for two decades and look forward to continuing for many years to come..
